Why You Need Weight Training
To Lose Fat Permanently

To lose fat without a weight training program
is a huge NO NO. You ask, "How can this be?"

If I lift weights, I will get big and bulky. Actually, the opposite is true! If you lift weights, you will transform your body into a fat-burning machine that will stay stoked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This one component of fitness is a huge must for any successful fat-loss program.

Muscle is metabolism, and your metabolism is directly related to lean muscle. So, if you can increase your lean muscle, which will increase your basil metabolic rate (calories burned per day at rest), then you are putting yourself in the best position to lose fat permanently.

Let's Look at the Numbers

If a woman weighs 140 pounds with a body fat of 29 percent, her lean body mass is 99.4 pounds, and her basal metabolic rate is 1346 calories burned per day. Suppose she drops her body fat to 19 percent, and then she works back to 140 pounds, while maintaining her body fat at only 19 percent.

Her lean body mass is now 113.4 pounds with a basal metabolic rate of 1483 calories burned per day. She now burns 137 calories a day more than before, with no additional exercise or caloric restriction! She even burns more calories when she's doing absolutely nothing (even while she sits at her desk, watches TV or snoozes).

Well, let's do the math: There are 3500 calories in a pound of stored body fat. 3500 divided by 137 extra calories burned per day equals an extra pound of body fat lost every 25.5 days, which adds up to 14.3 pounds of extra fat lost per year with no additional activity.

Now, I am not saying you can give up your aerobics and eat pizza every night. I am just showing you how important weight training is to increasing your metabolism.

If you want to lose fat, don't put weight training on the back burner. It is equally as important as aerobics, and if you think that aerobics by itself will keep the fat off permanently, you are not thinking accurately.
